‘Tis the season for decorating every single inch of your home. At least that’s what I want to do this time of year. I decided I would add a little sparkle by creating a simple banner to hang behind our couch. I was inspired by this one I came across last year for Thanksgiving…I didn’t complete it in time for Thanksgiving so I decided to make my own Christmas version {with a few less letters to make it even more simple}.

I bought some loose glitter and spray glue. I’m the type person that when I want to do a project I’ll just do it, whether I have everything I need or not. In this case I didn’t have access to a working printer to print out a template so I decided to improvise and draw the letters out myself. It’s 3 letter’s for goodness sake…I think I can handle that. I drew them on the card stock and cut them out…not too bad.

Sprayed them with the glue and sprinkled with glitter.

The glitter really was the fail-factor in this project. It was very fine glitter so I had to put a lot on and I had to do several layers. Once I finally got good coverage, let it dry and put it up. I realized it didn’t even have much shimmer to it…It just looked brown. I might as well just have cut up a cardboard box. Sheesh.

I gave it a break for a while and decided I’d try again…maybe next year. Ha. A few days later I discovered some glitter spray paint in our garage {that I bought for another project I have yet to complete}………uhhhh, why did I take the time to use spray glue and dust gently with loose glitter. Never again. This is an all-in-one deal. So I printed out a template really do it right this time, sprayed with the glitter spray paint and voila! Much better. Below are my recommended directions for you all to create your own “JOY” banner.

Supplies:

Directions:

  1. Print out the “JOY” template. You can either print directly on to card stock or onto regular paper and trace it onto thicker paper.
  2. Cut out the letters
  3. In a well ventilated area lay out newspaper or a cardboard box and spray the letters with the glitter paint
  4. It may take a few coats to get it fully covered.
  5. Let dry
  6. Tape the letters to your baker’s twine or string, hang up & enjoy 🙂
